Make the most of F5 products and apply for the F5 Workshop: BIG-IP Enablement.

In this 2 day instructor-led training, you'll develop the knowledge that will help you better understand BIG-IP Application Services Software. In particular, we'll focus on 2 key components of the F5 BIG-IP platform:

  • Local Traffic Manager (LTM) to securely publish highly available applications on the internet
  • Application Policy Manager (APM) to protect organizational applications with strong authentication and flexible authorization policies
Day 1: LTM Fundamentals
By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Configure virtual servers, pools, monitors, profiles, and persistence objects
  • Test and verify application delivery through the BIG-IP system using local traffic statistics
  • Configure priority group activation on a load balancing pool to allow servers to be activated only as needed to process traffic
  • Compare and contrast member-based and node-based dynamic load balancing methods
  • Configure connection limits to place a threshold on traffic volume to particular pool members and nodes
  • Differentiate between cookie, SSL, SIP, universal, and destination address affinity persistence, and describe use cases for each
  • Describe the three Match Across Services persistence options and use cases for each
  • Configure health monitors to appropriately monitor application delivery through a BIG-IP system
  • Configure different types of virtual services to support different types of traffic processing through a BIG-IP system
  • Configure different types of SNATs to support routing of traffic through a BIG-IP system
  • Configure VLAN tagging and trunking
  • Restrict administrative and application traffic through the BIG-IP system using packet filters, port lockdown, and virtual server settings
  • Configure SNMP alerts and traps in support of remote monitoring of the BIG-IP system
  • Use iRules and local traffic policies appropriate
  • Back up the BIG-IP system configuration for safekeeping
Day 2: APM Fundamentals
  • Set up and operate BIG-IP Access Policy Manager to protect your enterprise network and your data center using remote access methods such as SSL VPN, per-application layer 4 and reverse proxy layer 7 access methods as well as remote desktop access using Microsoft, Citrix and VMware protocols.
  • Learn how to protect applications by adding Access Policies to BIG-IP LTM virtual servers that allow or deny user access based on a set of conditions, such as user authentication using Active Directory or RADIUS or by determining if the client is running up-to-date anti-virus or firewall software.
  • Discover how to configure multiple resources using the aforementioned remote access methods, to provide applications such as SSH or Windows desktop to remote servers. With multiple resources created, dynamically assign resources based on the level of trust determined by conditions such as a user’s group membership, the client IP address geolocation information, the status of applications running on the client, and other available information. See how to craft complicated policies using easy-to-learn graphical flowcharting techniques that are quick to update and simple to propagate.
  • Learn how to use SSO techniques to make applications more accessible and more secure using credential reuse or federated single sign-on such as SAML – including both SP and IdP use cases. Review underlying technology and discuss typical use cases. Complete hands-on labs to reinforce each new topic as well as instill confidence for using the BIG-IP system in a production environment.
